I know i has been a while since I've wrote on here, school has been busier than I thought it would be.
I just recently bought "We are the World 25 for Haiti" video and I am very impressed by it. I am bothered how ever over the fact it has gotten so many negative reviews by people and why we are even supporting Haiti.
First for the song: There is no comparison for the old song for Africa and the new one for Haiti. There is no reason to compare artists in the first place. 25 years ago when the song was first made the artists used for that one were popular at the time, and the style of music was popular then also. They went with the same approach with this song too asking many popular singers for the song, and props to them for adding Michael Jackson in it also, that was a good move. 25 years ago rap wasn't as popular as it is today and the musical world has broadened also. Therefore, there is ample reason for them to use artists like Jeff Bridges, lil' Wayne, T-Pain, Jennifer Neddles, Randy Jackson, Pink, Will.i.am, and many others because they are popular in today's music world. The production was great for the time they did it in and how they were able to get 80+ artists to appear in the video/song in it.
Now for why it is important to support Haiti: Many arguments I have heard are "Why are we even supporting Haiti? they wouldn't help us if we had a natural disaster like that. Well, for one, we wouldn't ever have a natural disaster that would take out our WHOLE country, like the earthquake did to Haiti. We would never have that size of a disaster.
If we don't help them, who will. We are known for being there for countries when they are in distress, for example, Indonesia and Africa, for the main obvious reason, we are the richest nation in the world and have enough willing people to aid them and with their own government their people are able to start recovering quickly and get the medicine and antibiotics they need. It is important to maintain our label as helping out those in distress. Becasue think of it if we don't help, we are know for leaving the world people suffering and dying in a country almost a stones throw away. What would it do to the Cuban people also? We have adjusted for them to become citizens of our country and imagine if we hadn't. Cubans think we don't care about their people and the world and, for one, Cuba has a government we don't particularly like, therefore we do things for their people to help save them form their distress that Fidel puts on them.
Continue to have Haiti in your thoughts and prayers along as supporting them to rebuild their country. These are just the thoughts I have had about this situation.
